Cafeteria Duty Budget Allocations
Contact Person: Lisa Walker
Building budget workbooks have been updated with a new Cafeteria Duty sheet. This sheet identifies each building’s district allocation for cafeteria/lunch duty, including the budget amount and budget code to be used.
Allocations were developed using current enrollment and lunch schedules. In some cases where a lunch shift was close to the enrollment threshold for an additional duty slot, the additional slot was not included at this time. We will revisit allocations following the September 20 enrollment count, and building allocations may be increased or reduced based on enrollment changes.
Please keep the following in mind when scheduling and approving cafeteria duty:
- Certified staff: Lunch duty is paid at the negotiated rate of $13.21 per session.
- Classified staff: When lunch supervision occurs outside the hours of the employee’s regular position, the employee is paid their regular hourly rate for the actual time worked, not to exceed 30 minutes per shift, and must submit the applicable lunch duty timesheet.
- Budgeting: Each approved cafeteria duty shift has been budgeted at $13.21 per session. If classified staff are used, their actual 30-minute cost will likely be less than the amount budgeted.
- Remaining funds: Any funds remaining within the cafeteria duty allocation are district funds designated specifically for cafeteria duty and may not be reallocated by the building to another budget line or expense.
Principals should use the new sheet in their building budget workbook when planning cafeteria supervision and ensure approved duty stays within the district allocation AND the proper budget code is used on extra duty timesheets for cafeteria monitors. Additional adjustments or clarification will be provided after the September 20 enrollment count, if needed.

K-5 i-Ready Highlights
Contact Person: Mikheala Dozier
Please share the following information with teachers.
New Feature: Read Aloud for Standards Mastery
Grades 2–5 Math: Universal audio support is now automatically available during Standards Mastery Checks. Students can access read-aloud by selecting the microphone icon. Prompts and answer choices within dropdown menus must be selected individually for audio to play. No changes to assessment or student settings are required.
Math MTSS Protocol: Priority Standard Monitoring
The fifth element of the KCKPS Math MTSS Protocol focuses on monitoring Priority Standards through K–1 and K–3 Dual Language Comprehension Checks and Grades 2–5 Standards Mastery Checks.
For assessment directions and i-Ready resources, refer to slides 19–30 of the K–5 Math MTSS Protocol. Staff may also preview Standards Mastery Checks before administering them.
Upcoming Department Professional Learning:
- September 9, 2026: K-5 returning teachers will receive a refresher on the Math MTSS Protocol.
- November 4, 2026: Grades 2–5 teachers will engage in deeper learning around the Standards Mastery process and using assessment data to inform
- instruction.

Propio & ParentSquare Virtual Phone
Contact Person:Dr. Lauren Hernandez
Hello Leaders,
We know you and your staff are excited to use Virtual Phone on ParentSquare. Please note that 3 way calls, specifically using Propio to call into a phone conversation, is NOT supported in ParentSquare Virtual Phone.

Spring 2026 KAP Data Now Available
Contact Person: Dr. Angela Grant
Spring 2026 KAP data has been released by KSDE through AMOSS and uploaded into Infinite Campus. Scores are also now available for review in Tableau.
Please note that 11th-grade Science scores are not yet available because KSDE was reviewing the standard setting for that assessment over the summer. We will provide another update when those scores become available.
District Benchmark Update
Contact Person: Dr. Angela Grant
Thank you to everyone for your attention at last week’s Nuts and Bolts meeting. Since that meeting, KSDE has released additional details regarding the Through-Year, Curriculum Directed (TYCD) assessment.
Specifically, they have clarified the testing requirements for students who enroll later in the school year. Students who:
- join the district before the need not test date (March 22nd, 2027) and
- do not have the opportunity to complete three regular benchmark assessments with KCKPS (i.e., students who join the district between January and March)
will be required to take a summative (40-question) version of their grade-level assessment in Quarter 4.
Note that this assessment is not the KAP, it will still be administered via Campfire and aligned to our specified standards.
DERA will help buildings identify the affected students and coordinate these testing sessions alongside the regularly scheduled Q4 assessment. Please feel free to reach out to Dr. Grant or use the Question Landing Pad from the Nuts and Bolts meeting if you have additional questions.

Secondary Math Pacing Calendar Development Team
Contact Person: Jennifer Kramer
As part of our continued work to strengthen the Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum (GVC) in secondary mathematics, Quarter 1 pacing calendars have been developed for 6th Grade Math, 7th Grade Math, 8th Grade Math, and Algebra 1. These initial pacing calendars were developed using the 2025–2026 GVC documents as a foundation.
During the 2026–2027 school year, we will establish a representative teacher team to continue developing and refining pacing calendars across secondary mathematics courses. The goal of this work is to create greater coherence, consistency, and alignment in student learning experiences across classrooms, schools, and grade levels.
The team will develop pacing guidance for the remaining quarters and then revisit each quarter after implementation. This reflection and refinement process will allow teachers to use their classroom experience to identify needed adjustments and ensure that the pacing documents remain both rigorous and realistic.
Teacher Participation and Time Commitment
We are seeking teacher representatives from 6th Grade Math, 7th Grade Math, 8th Grade Math, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2, to include Direct math, Sheltered Math, and plus courses.
All work will occur during the duty day on Wednesday afternoons. Because the work builds across meetings and requires continuity of the team, teachers who participate should commit to attending all scheduled sessions.
The proposed meeting schedule is:
- September 30, 2026 – Initial meeting: establish the purpose, scope, and process for the work
- October 7, 2026 – Begin refinement of pacing calendars for the 2026–2027 school year
- October 14, 2026 – Complete initial pacing calendar refinements
- October 28, 2026 – Reflect on and refine Quarter 1 pacing calendars and public GVC documents
- December 2, 2026 – Reflect on and refine Quarter 2 pacing calendars and public GVC documents
- March 10, 2027 – Reflect on and refine Quarter 3 pacing calendars and public GVC documents
- May 12, 2027 – Reflect on and refine Quarter 4 pacing calendars and public GVC documents
Support from Principals
Principals can support this work by encouraging teachers who have strong content knowledge, a collaborative mindset, and an understanding of their course and students to express interest. Representation across schools and course types will be important to ensuring the resulting pacing guidance reflects the needs of our students and is useful to teachers across the district. A survey will be sent out to teachers at the end of the week to request their interest and participation.
